It’s Carnival time again! And, no one throws a bigger carnival in the Algarve than Loulé! On Saturday the 9th, Sunday the 10th and Tuesday the 12th of February, the main avenue in the city of Loulé will come alive with costumed characters, dancers and live entertainment.

The theme of this year’s event is “Entroikados na Grande Palhaçada” (or “Troika in the Great Farce,” a satire on the European Union’s economic hold on Portugal). With this kind of political farce, Portuguese and international visitors alike are sure to have a good laugh poking fun of politicians and the economy.

On each day, a parade starts the festivities at 15:00. 17 floats, entertainment groups, samba schools, big-headed characters and Gigantones march along Avenida José da Costa Mealha. The procession integrates hundreds of extras bring color and joy to the heart of the city of Loulé.

Also on the schedule is an entertainment program that includes dances, theme parties, sporting and cultural activities.
